his
home was a small home with one large shed roof covering the entire
house, which was designed in a somewhat contemporary manner in that
the second floor occupied only the rear portion of the house, while
the living room in the front of the house had a ceiling which sloped
upwards to two stories at the center, where it was overlooked by
the hallway of the second floor. The front entry was not delineated
in any way, but was simply a door in the middle of the front facade.
The project involved the addition of a garage and second floor master
bedroom suite. The Architect helped the owners to obtain the necessary
variance on this very unusual lot with steeply- sloping topography
to the rear, and then designed an addition that wrapped around the
front entry to give it some delineation, weather protection and
elegance, as well as changing the entire roofline to include the
new garage and master bedroom addition and to thereby make the entire
house much more interesting.
