his was a small, somewhat rustic bungalow perched on a hill, in which the owner desired to add a garage and additional bedroom and living space over, the addition to be located on the much lower ground to the left of the existing house. The owner naturally wanted a lot of glass on the front facade because it faces the water, so that the finished product had to be a transformed house, not one compatible with the existing bungalow. The architect's challenge was to accomplish these ends while integrating the floor plans at several levels, creating open spaces in the interior, and meeting tight zoning constraints, especially with the 30-ft. height limit in this shoreline community. This project is still under construction.
