PERSONAL PROFILE

Mr. Mack became an architect after graduating from Yale School of Architecture in 1973. Prior to commencing his education at that school in 1969, he had practiced law for some years following his graduation from Yale Law School.

Because his family situation, with a wife and two children to support, did not permit employment at low wages in an architect's office, he worked during architecture school at a construction company owned by one of his former legal clients. Having learned about both architecture and construction during his school years, he followed graduation by designing and building a home for his own family, and then designing and building a series of other homes on speculation. In 1988 he began construction of a residential condominium complex containing 34 units which he had also developed and designed. By dint of very hard work and perseverance for several years, he was able to complete this project notwithstanding severe economic distress in New England at that time and for several years thereafter. Since then, he has been active in design of residential projects, both new homes and additions to existing homes.

Mr. Mack has always worked as a sole practitioner, employing only a draftsperson and a secretary during the condominium project, and he designs homes and additions for very modest fees. Mr. Mack does not pursue just one particular style of design and construction. While many of his homes illustrate a radial pattern of framing, he has also designed many more traditional buildings, especially where the project consists of an addition to an existing traditionally-styled home. On the other hand, many of his additions have also accomplished a complete transformation of the form of the home.
